Can I Get Maternity Health Insurance If I’m Pregnant?
Probably not. Health Insurance companies decline to offer individual health insurance policies to pregnant women, except in a couple of situations. The first situation is if you join a group health insurance plan at your place of work, or at your spouse’s company. The second is if you have a non-maternity plan and your insurance company will let you transfer to a plan that covers maternity care. You’ll need to check the insurance companies in your state to see if they allow this type of transfer (Blue Shield of California will allow a transfer from a non-maternity plan into a maternity plan).
