The United States Nurses Health Care Reform is made up of licensed caregivers who are advocates for the rights of all patients to be given access to affordable quality medical treatment, should they need it – and with no regard to their personal, social or economic situation. The group has since pushed the issue all the way to the U. S. Congress, in hopes that the legislation passes.
Many of those registered nurses active in the reform have stood behind these beliefs for decades, working towards their goal any way they could, in order to make sure that all people receive equal medical care – including condition-specific treatments AND preventative measures for wellness maintenance – and, all while being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve from any and all medical staff.
And, if you get a chance to read the American nurses code of ethics, you will see that these mission statements have been around since the profession was created, and are reflected back as the main mission “statement” behind their reform endeavor. As a registered nurse, you are required and are expected to perform your care giving duties with compassion and understanding for those who become your patients. You are expected to acknowledge that each person is unique and different, and give them the best care possible – without basing its quality on any personal, financial, or economic attributes that a person may have, or on the nature of his medical situation, for that matter.
The RN willingly protects her patients – and the public, if necessary – from any of those people whose incompetence, illegal practices or unethical behavior adversely affects the safety and well-being of those patients under her care, and others in the vicinity.
The licensed nurse willingly accepts accountability for her actions in regards to the care she provides her patients. And, she strives to further her nursing education, as she knows that gaining even more extensive knowledge is necessary, in order for her to maintain her competence and know-how in giving excellent patient care.
The nurse agrees to participate in her profession’s attempts to shield the public from misinformation, and to maintain her integrity, and the integrity of the nursing profession. In addition, she agrees to collaborate with those members of other health-related professions, in order to take care of the needs of not only her patients, but those of the community and nation, as well.
So, after reading this article, it might now be clear to you as to how the American Nurses Health Care reform endeavor basically reflects back upon their own code of ethics. And, it’s pretty easy to see that any person who has been, or will become a patient sometime in the future, is very lucky indeed to have such a caring and driving force taking care of him, and looking out for the health of future generations.
